The rudiments covered, or generated, include ruffs, single drags, and double drags, similar to a lot of the things in the Wilcoxon etude <a href=\"https:\/\/pdxdrummer.com\/?p=212\">Roughing the Single Drag<\/a>, from Modern Rudimental Swing Solos\u2014 I would recommed playing through that as a companion piece to this item.<\/p>\n<p>As always, we&#8217;ll first see how it applies to the first line of Exercise 1, p. 37 in Syncopation:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-evhmp526fPc\/UGUfXVxkTDI\/AAAAAAAABzY\/T9Q00vN3wlM\/s1600\/rudimental-reed-ruffs_01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pdxdrummer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/rudimental-reed-ruffs_01.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"51\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;ve given both alternating and <a href=\"https:\/\/pdxdrummer.com\/index.php\/2012\/08\/21\/on-varieties-of-stickings\/\">natural stickings<\/a>\u2014 play it both ways, leading with either hand. I haven&#8217;t included the multiple-bounce strokes in the stickings, but they happen with the opposite hand.
