We’ve moved to an online format for all students, for the duration of this unfortunate COVID situation. Most of my students use Skype or Zoom, but I’ve also been able to teach successfully via FaceTime, using just a smart phone— I was surprised to find that worked just fine!

Since a lot of school and work have moved online, most people have a basic setup for online meetings; probably the most important thing for doing drum lessons is that the student have headphones— otherwise I hear an echo of myself, which makes it difficult to teach. If you’re using electronic drums, they should be played through a speaker at your house, so they can be heard through the microphone on your computer, webcam, phone, or pad.
